Palmview Elementary joins Pompano Beach High as a Florida School of Excellence, a state title for schools in the top 20% of their group. What it brings each school.

Two Pompano Beach public schools have been named Florida Schools of Excellence for the 2025-26 school year. Palmview Elementary earned the title for the first time. Pompano Beach High earned it for a second straight year.

Broward County Public Schools announced the list Thursday. The district said 50 of its schools earned the designation from the Florida State Board of Education, according to its news release. No other district-run school in Pompano Beach is on it.

What the title means

A school qualifies when it ranks at or above the 80th percentile of its grade-level group in at least two of the previous three school years. The ranking comes from Florida’s school grade calculation.

The district said the designation brings:

  • more flexibility and autonomy over administrative, instructional and operational requirements
  • additional funding opportunities

“This recognition reflects our shared commitment to academic excellence and ensuring every student has access to high-quality learning experiences and the support needed to succeed,” Superintendent Howard Hepburn said in the release.

Palmview Elementary

Palmview, at 2601 NE First Ave., was not on the district’s list for 2024-25. It earned an A in Florida’s 2026 school grades, with 70% of possible points. It also earned an A in 2025 and 2024.

The school serves pre-K through fifth grade. It had 509 students on Aug. 21, the 10th day of the school year, according to the district’s Tenth Day Enrollment Count. The school’s specialized programs page describes its federal Title I program, which funds schools that serve many children from low-income families.

Pompano Beach High

Pompano Beach High, at 600 NE 13th Ave., was also on last year’s list. It earned an A in the state’s 2026 grades with 80% of possible points, after A grades in 2025 and 2024.

It is an all-magnet school with an International Affairs with Information Technology theme and no attendance zone. It had 1,334 students on the Aug. 21 count.

What it means for you

For Palmview families, the designation is a state marker of sustained results, not a one-year grade. It gives the school more say over how it runs and a better shot at extra state money.

The district’s release covers only the schools it runs. Charter schools are designated on the state’s own list, which we could not open Sunday. If your child’s charter school in Pompano Beach earned the title, email us at hello@pompanobeachdaily.com and we will add it.
