Your pickup days

The city splits Pompano Beach into six color zones. Find your street on the collection map and read across:

Map color Garbage Recycling Bulk
Red Monday and Thursday Monday Thursday
Pink Monday and Thursday Thursday Monday
Dark green Tuesday and Friday Friday Tuesday
Light green Tuesday and Friday Tuesday Friday
Dark blue Wednesday and Saturday Wednesday Saturday
Light blue Wednesday and Saturday Saturday Wednesday

Roughly, on the map, the red zone is the beach side north of Atlantic Boulevard and east of Federal Highway; the pink zone runs between Dixie Highway and Federal Highway north of Atlantic and along the east side south of Atlantic. The green zones are in the northeast and southeast corners, and the blue zones cover the city west of Dixie Highway. Streets near a boundary should check the map itself or call Coastal.

Holidays

Garbage and recycling are collected every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas. If your pickup falls on one of those days, Coastal services your carts on your next scheduled day and takes any bagged material set beside the carts at that time. There are no make-up days. This year that means Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Dec. 25.

Garbage: the gray cart

From the city’s garbage collection page:

  • Use only the gray cart the city provided. Resident-owned cans are not serviced, and anything outside the cart is not collected.
  • Put the cart out after 5 p.m. the evening before pickup and before 7 a.m. on pickup day, in the front swale near the driveway, lid opening toward the street. Bring it in the same day.
  • Keep each cart at least 3 feet from other carts, cars, trees, mailboxes and hydrants.
  • A full cart must weigh less than 150 pounds.
  • Small yard waste, such as coconuts, palm fronds, clippings and branches, goes in the gray cart.

Apartments and condos with four or more units, and mobile home parks, have cart or dumpster service at least twice a week, set with the property owner.

Recycling: the blue cart

Recycling is picked up once a week in the blue cart, under the same 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. rules. The recycling page lists what goes in:

  • Yes: newspapers, magazines, junk mail, office paper and flattened cardboard; aluminum, steel and tin cans; plastic containers numbered 1 to 7.
  • No: plastic bags, foam (Styrofoam), paper towels and used paper plates, thermal paper, and food waste of any kind.

Rinse and dry containers, and put items in loose, not bagged. The city’s dos and don’ts sheet has pictures. To get or replace a blue cart, call 954-786-4030.

Pompano Beach bulk pickup schedule

Single-family homes, duplexes and triplexes get one bulk pickup a week, on the bulk day for their color zone on the city’s collection map:

Bulk day Color zone
Monday Pink
Tuesday Dark green
Wednesday Light blue
Thursday Red
Friday Light green
Saturday Dark blue

Not sure of your zone? Call Environmental Services at 954-786-4030. Bulk day is a different day from your recycling day in every zone, and in each zone it falls on one of your two garbage days. Apartments with four or more units, businesses and vacant lots are not on the weekly bulk route and may need an appointment through 954-786-4030 or Bulk@copbfl.com.

Bulk pickup rules

From the bulk waste page:

  • Limit 4 cubic yards, about 6 feet by 4 feet by 4 feet.
  • Put it out after 5 p.m. the night before or before 7 a.m. on bulk day, within 5 feet of the curb line and no more than 10 feet from the edge of the street, at least 5 feet from the neighbor’s property and clear of storm drains, sidewalks and meters.
  • Small items go in the gray garbage cart, not the bulk pile.
  • Accepted: furniture, mattresses, appliances, yard trimmings and branches, wooden doors, fence sections, sinks, toilets and bathtubs.
  • Not accepted: large tree trunks, stumps or roots; construction and demolition debris; car or boat parts; dirt, rocks, sand or sod; hazardous waste.

Bigger cleanouts: you can schedule up to two extra collections a year of up to 16 cubic yards each, for yard debris and household waste only. Call 954-786-4030 before you put anything out. A bulk pile that breaks the rules can bring a violation notice; owners then have 48 hours to remove it or book a pickup.

Drop-off site

Residents can bring bulk waste and recyclables to the city drop-off at 1840 NW 33rd St. on Saturdays, with proof of residency. The bulk page lists hours of 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for bulk; the recycling page lists 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. for recyclables. Cars and pickup trucks only.

Hazardous waste and electronics

Paint, pesticides, cleaning solvents, rechargeable batteries and old electronics never go in a cart. Pompano Beach shares free collection events with other Broward cities, and residents can use any participating city’s event with proof of residency. Broward County’s site north of Copans Road at Powerline Road no longer takes these items from Pompano Beach residents.

From the city’s 2026 schedule:
