Moving to Pompano Beach means dealing with the city for water, trash and permits, Broward County for taxes, tags and pets, and the state for your driver’s license. Here is the order most people need them in.

1. Water and sewer
The City of Pompano Beach Utilities Department supplies water and sewer service in the city. To start, stop or move service, call customer service at 954-786-4637, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. After hours: 954-540-5769 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and 954-942-2202 for emergencies. Pay online through the city’s Nuvei billing portal or by phone at 855-270-3592. The city’s water service area map shows where city water and reclaimed water reach.
Watering rules: odd-numbered addresses may water lawns on Wednesdays and Saturdays, even-numbered addresses on Thursdays and Sundays, only before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m., the utilities page says. Homes on reclaimed water can water any day outside 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
2. Electricity
Florida Power & Light serves Pompano Beach. Start service through FPL’s Start, Stop, Move page or by calling 1-888-988-8249, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. See our power outages guide.
3. Natural gas and internet
The city does not publish a list of gas or internet providers. Ask your seller, landlord or condo association whether the building has natural gas service. To see which internet providers report service at your address, use the Federal Communications Commission’s National Broadband Map, then sign up with the provider directly.
4. Trash and recycling
The city’s Environmental Services Department runs trash service, and Coastal Waste & Recycling collects twice a week for garbage and once a week each for recycling and bulk at single-family homes. Carts or questions: 954-786-4030. Your days depend on your color zone. See our trash and recycling guide.
5. Driver’s license and car tags
- Driver’s license: the state’s Pompano Citi Centre office is at 1955 N. Federal Highway, Unit J209, 954-497-1570, open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday. Book an appointment or see the state’s Broward office list.
- Tags and titles: the Broward County Tax Collector handles vehicle registration at its offices in Fort Lauderdale (115 S. Andrews Ave.), Plantation (1800 NW 66th Ave.) and Lauderdale Lakes (3718 W. Oakland Park Blvd.); see its locations page and motor vehicle services. Questions: 954-797-8733.
6. Homestead exemption
If you own your home and live in it on Jan. 1, file for homestead with the Broward County Property Appraiser by March 1. A purchase resets your assessed value, so the seller’s tax bill is not a guide to yours. See our property taxes guide.
7. Register your pet
Broward County requires every dog and cat 4 months or older to be vaccinated against rabies, registered and wear a Broward County tag. Bring or upload a current rabies certificate from a veterinarian; tags are sold online through the county’s PetData portal or at approved veterinary offices, according to Broward County Animal Care. Lost tags are replaced at the county Adoption Center. The city’s dog park needs a separate membership; see our parks guide.
8. Schools
Public schools are run by Broward County Public Schools. Find your zoned school and register with two proofs of address; see our schools guide.
9. Vote
Register or update your address at RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov. See our voting guide for deadlines and polling places.
10. Permits and hurricane plans
- Planning work on your new home? See building permits and zoning, including the new state exemption for small jobs under $7,500.
- Find your evacuation zone before the next storm: east of the Intracoastal or east of Federal Highway. See our hurricane prep guide. City residents are added to Alert Pompano Beach automatically.
