The pier
The Fisher Family Pier, first built in 1963, reaches more than 900 feet into the Atlantic, according to the city. The rebuild that began in 2019 raised the deck to withstand sea level rise, nearly doubled its width for fishing and strolling, added large shade sails and marine-life artwork, and gave the entrance the shape of a pompano, the fish the city is named for.
The pier is named for the Fisher family’s more than 100 years of civic service in Pompano Beach. It is also home to the First Marine Amphibious Landing Monument, which marks the Continental Marines’ 1776 amphibious landing, the first on foreign soil.
