The dog beach
The city’s Dog Park and Beach page lists the Wags & Waves Dog Beach at the SE 2nd Street beach access entrance, a pilot program to test how a dog beach works for dogs, owners, beachgoers and neighbors.
The pilot’s detail page was offline when we checked on Oct. 10. As last published by the city, the dog beach was open only on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, at set morning and evening hours that shift with daylight saving time, with dogs on a 6-foot leash, no more than two dogs per person, proof of rabies vaccination at entry and no food. Call Parks and Recreation at 954-786-4111 to confirm the pilot is running and the current hours before you go. Outside the dog beach, do not bring dogs onto the sand.

Leash rules
- City: the Canine Corner rules say any dog outside a fenced off-leash area must be under the physical control of a responsible adult on a leash; an off-leash dog outside the fence is treated as at large and is subject to enforcement. The full animal rules are in the city’s Code of Ordinances.
- County: Broward County’s animal law, which applies countywide, makes it illegal to let a dog run at large; see the county’s animal laws page.
- Clean up after your dog everywhere; the city’s park pages and dog park rules require it.
Patios and businesses
We list dog-friendly patios only when a restaurant says so on its own website. Businesses that welcome dogs can tell us through our contact page.
What this means for you
